Behind The Lens

Location

The Grizzly Bear and Wolf Discovery Centre in West Yellowstone, Montana provides a home for animals that have been a problem in the wild. The Bears especially had become dangerous. Here at the centre thye try to mimic the wild, making the bears search for their food which is hidden. These two were let out into the enclosure in the morning and provided quite a show for the onlookers.

Time

In the mornings, the bears are more active after they have had their share to eat.

Lighting

Overcast, but bright day provided nice even lighting.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 6D full frame camera with a 100- 400 lens for wildlife shots. The full frame allows me to crop in to the image for closer detail.

Inspiration

I love shooting wildlife, but it can be a challenge to actually find them. This allowed me to have a lot of fun.

Editing

Editing was just the usual adjustments for colour, clarity and sharpness and cropping to get in a bit closer and of course leave out the distracting fence lines.

In my camera bag

Shooting wildlife I would have my 100 - 400 lens on. Otherwise I only carry my 24- 70 lens mounted on the camera and a 70 - 200 in my camera bag. I have a small pocket light and polarizing filters as well.

Feedback

Patience pays off when shooting wildlife. This was my second day in a row of visiting the grizzlies. The first day did not provide the action I wanted. Trying to leave out the man made elements makes for a stronger image as well.
