This photo was taken in my house in Oshawa, Ontario. I received a potted tulip plant from my son's girlfriend for Mother's Day 2018 and decided to try some macro shots.Time
It was in the afternoon and the sun was coming in brightly through my kitchen window. I placed the potted plant on my garbage can to get the right angle for the light and tried to zoom right into the flowers center with my manual macro mode (no zoom). I originally started taking the pictures of the tulips because one of the them had some truly amazing natural heart shapes on the petals, you can see it in some of my other photos.Lighting
I tried a few different spots in my house to play with the natural lighting and found this one to be the best, the sun came right through the petals to highlight it beautifully. I also applied a filter to make it just a bit more bright, the original copy is also in my pictures.Equipment
I used my Olympus SP810UZ, SP815UZ, Aperature 29/10, ISO 800, Exposure 1/60. No tripod, just a lot of holding my breath!Inspiration
The tulip with the hearts was my first inspiration but the other tulips looked so pretty I had to shoot them too and I'm glad I did!Editing
I am not well trained in post editing so I used my basic Windows photo editor to crop it just to center it better. I also lightened this copy through the amazing photo editing software that Viewbug provides! In my camera bag
I always have my Samsung Galaxy A5 cellphone with me...you'd be surprised at the quality of close up shots with it. I also always try to bring my Olympus camera everywhere I go because you never know when you'll find something picture worthy! I don't have a bunch of equipment, my son just bought me my first tripod but I haven't used it yet so I'm excited to try it out for waterfalls and streams.Feedback
Be patient and take lots of pictures. Play around with different filters. As a newbie, I just try different things and see what I like. I'd like to believe I have a good eye for this which is something you can't teach. Above all, do what makes you happy!!
