Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in our home, in one of my children's bedrooms. We had just moved in and I was still experimenting with location and lighting conditions. I usually shoot in natural light coming from a North facing window, but at this time of day the lighting seemed perfect.

Time

About an hour before sunset, if I remember correctly, in late summer or early fall when the days were still longer.

Lighting

I always work in natural light.

Equipment

Canon T3 with the lens it came with originally. No tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I love cooking and I love it when colors just pop. Citrus is so photogenic and I created this recipe specifically for a blog so I visualized the entire project as a photograph and it just came together beautifully. Flavors, colors, everything seemed to just work.

Editing

Yes, probably. For me editing is really based on my mood and subject to whim, and because I took this photo about 3 years ago it's tough to say exactly how I edited from the original. Knowing myself, I probably lowered exposure to create a moodier scene, I cropped a bit and lifted contrast and shadows

In my camera bag

Camera, original lens, charger, memory card

Feedback

Follow your instincts. Trust the light. Editing is supposed to make a good photo great, not be used in place of optimal conditions. Don't force a photo, it's just not worth it.
