Location
This photo was taken in my bedroom, actually on my husband's bed which is right near a North facing window.Time
I believe it was a Friday afternoon, maybe a couple of hours before sunset. around 3-4 in the afternoon, mid January.Lighting
I take my photos in all natural lighting, filtered through a pale blue bedsheet hanging over the window.Equipment
Just an entry level DSLR, my Canon T3 with the all purpose lens it came with (18-55), No tripod, in auto mode with no flash.Inspiration
Winter, of course is citrus season and blood oranges feature in one way or another in my home every year. I wanted to showcase them in a light meal inspired by the flavors of winter coupled with the colors we are blessed with in food.Editing
I did some light editing using Instagram. I enhanced structure, lightened exposure a little, darkened shadows and raised highlights to bring out the sheen on the orange slice, and I added a touch of vignette to draw attention to the center. In my camera bag
I don't really have much. Just my camera, a charger and the original 18-55 lens.Feedback
Don't overstyle too much, but also do style a little. A lot of the colors I managed to capture were thanks to some time I spent preparing, but I also didn't overdo it and the natural essence of the photo is retained. As well, never underestimate the power of a simple camera and lens. It forces you to use your instincts and natural eye.
