Location
This cross is on the roof of a nunnery in Santa Fe. Part of the nunnery is used by the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Wait! Santa Fe isn't near Route 66! Actually it was according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_66_in_New_Mexico. And the nunnery is just across the street from the famous statue of the wagon team on the Santa Fe trail (I've got a picture of that at sunset in Viewbug). I took this picture because the roof of the nunnery was painted white to reflect heat. I noticed that it also lit up the bottom of the cross. It took a number of tries to get this underflow the way I wanted it but I'm happy with the result.Time
I took this picture near noon on my way to lunch at the nunnery dinning room. Actually the nuns now live sequestered in a different section of the nunnery and I never talked to them.Lighting
Noon. Who says you can't get good lighting with a full high Sun? Ok, this was a special case.Equipment
Sony A7Rii and 24-70mm lens. No filter. Hand held.Inspiration
As mentioned about I wanted to capture the glow on the bottom of the cross. That glow came from reflections off the white heat-rejection roof.Editing
Careful conversion to monochrome and made sure the lighting showed up. Pretty simple. In my camera bag
I generally don't carry a bag. I just carry what I need for that period of time. In this case the Sony A7Rii with 24-70mm lens and a nice neoprene camera strap. It was nice because it had two zipped pouches in it that I put extra SD cards and and extra battery. I have no idea why few other people do this. It really makes life easier.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for something new, different. Everyone else missed this thought everyone at at the same place and walked over on the same route for years.
