Location
This photo was taken in Torres del Paine Park in Chile's Patagonia. Most people take a shot of the famous towers, which the park is named after, but this is the view looking directly opposite the towers which I thought was stunning. A snowstorm is approaching.Time
This was taken around 11am. It looks like late afternoon because a storm is approaching and had darkened the sky.Lighting
A storm was approaching, that would soon envelop us as he headed down the mountains. That is why the scene is darkened even at 11am. But the sun burned through the clouds one last time and created a fan of light that showed the snow dusting the opposite ridge.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon 5300.Inspiration
I am a filmmaker/photographer. About twenty percent of my business is shooting for adventure companies. This wasn't a paid job however. This was a trek with an old high school buddy. But I treat my vacations like paid jobs and shoot, shoot, shoot. I am intrigued by what else there is too see besides the scenes everyone is drawn to. Have been amazed that I haven't seen this view opposite the towers, more.Editing
This photo is very lightly retouched. It really was all there. Just a little bit of contrast added by dialing up the blacks. In my camera bag
As a filmmaker/photographer I usually carry my Sony A7rii and a back up body. My favorite landscape lens for photography and film is the zeiss 16-35 f4. But also carry a 35mm 2.8 for shallow depth of field broll filmmaking. And a zeiss 25mm f2 which is super fast. Even on my 16-35 zoom I am most often at the 24mm-25mm area. I also carry a zeiss 55mm 1.8 if I am doing a portrait or interviewing someone. I carry a sennheisser lavalier mic and I also carry a zhiyun crane plus which is a nice, light one-handed gimbal so I can hold onto a cliff face or steady myself with one hand if needed. Finally I also carry a Mavic Air drone which is small enough to throw in the backpack.Feedback
Look for the iconic scenes of course, but also then take a look around and try to find something others haven't filmed.
