where was this shot? I feel locations for such photos to be important. I travel a lot and such photos help me choose new places to visit

I could look at this every morning for years and not get tired of viewing it. Well done!

Location
This photo was taken from the banks of the Merced River, in Yosemite Valley, Yosemite National Park. It is one of my favorite locations in the Valley to shoot. Every time you are there, you see something new.Time
We had been in the park most of the night, hoping to catch a rising Milky Way over Half Dome. That plan was foiled by a lingering storm. It was forecast that the storm would be out of the valley by sunrise, so we stayed in the park to wait for sunrise. We arrived at this location about 0500, knowing that we would be standing and waiting for a couple of hours to capture the sunshine as it hit the tips of the Three Brothers. This shot was taken at 0650 hrs.Lighting
I did not adjust the lighting at all from what the early morning sunlight was giving the lens. This photo was taken shortly after dawn as the sun's rays were reaching the Three Brothers rock formation. I did not want to alter the lighting so that I could capture as close to what my eye was seeing.Equipment
I shot this photo using a tripod-mounted, unfiltered, CANON 5DMkII.Inspiration
Yosemite National Park is a favorite photo destination in Central California for a lot of photographers. I frequent the Park throughout the year. Right now, I am trying to emulate some of my favorite artists, both past and present as I am learning the Park, and expanding my capabilities. I've seen this scene before and wanted to try and capture it.Editing
This image was created from a set of three photos combined in Lr as an HDR image. I removed some of the blue cast of the snow in the foreground that is so typical of early morning, dimly lit shots. In my camera bag
I carry a minimal set of quality gear in my bag. Whether I am short-sighted or not, I like to have matching equipment so I always pack around my CANON IS 70-200 f/2.8 and my 24-80 f/2.8. My CANON 5DMkII, while older, has continued to be my workhorse and I am very pleased with what it can do. I always carry small trinkets like a remote, to aid in low light situations.Feedback
Morning photos are always fun, I think I prefer the morning light over the evening light, but both time frames offer unique lighting perspectives. In Yosemite, you have to get to the location you want to shoot prior to your desired time as space fills up with photographers. I would suggest making use of readily available apps such as TPE to help set up shots, track sunrise/sunsets etc.
