Location
The photo was taken in the loft of the old mill just above my studio. Usually is a storage place but has some good lighting and the old lift system so we decided to go for this.Time
This was in afternoon but during November it was a really cold at the time. The loft doesn't have any heating. I have to say the model Carla Monaco was amazing. We have only a blanket cover and soon we got ready we take the shot because the temperature wasn't pleasant at all.Lighting
As you can see the photo is a little be out of focus and grainy due to not using any lighting. I went just with my 50mm lens and use the natural lighting coming from the windows on the roof. Probably a single flash and reflector could do better but due to the cold weather, we didn't have much time to prepare. However, I think in this lighting the photo got a more dramatic effect and I am happy with the final results.Equipment
I use my Canon 60D and believe it or not my Youngnuo 50mm f/1.8 for this shot. Another prove that $50 lens can produce amazing results.Inspiration
The old loft is a really mystical place so I wanted to combine this feel and present this nude shot as a beauty over loneliness and cold. To be honest both of us didn't know what to expect. We just went on top and as the model is very experienced in any shooting situation I just left her to go with her feelings.Editing
Yes, I did just a little touch on this photo. I was colour shot so the only logical decision here was to go black and white and make it more dramatic and powerful. So all I did is fix a little be lighting, clean up, add some noise and play with the tones to make the black & white as I like it.In my camera bag
My bag always has the Canon 60D, Youngnuo 50mm f/1.8, Canon 85mm f/1.8, mini tripod, remote shooters, colour gels. Sometimes I have few extras but this is always ready to go.Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment. Don't aim for the sharpest photo or 100% focus. They are good things but this doesn't mean it will make the photo better. Just go shoot and collaborate with the model you work with. You need a few seconds to take the right shot so don't rush, prepare and then go for it. But again don't let anything stop you. This loft is used many of times for shooting and no one else has the same shot as mine. This only shows that not stepping back gives results. Go shoot and follow your feelings. Most of all have fun and don't over think the situation.
