Behind The Lens

Location

In my bedroom by the window, I like to try make any location look good and this area was perfect because it was the sunniest room in the house.

Time

In the afternoon once my sister arrived at my moms house after the family hasn't been united for over 3 months.

Lighting

The natural sunlight through the window and cream colour of the walls and curtains complemented my models skin tones and blonde hair.

Equipment

I used the Nikon D5300 with its stock zoom lens 18-55mm.

Inspiration

I love portrait photography and colour theory and wanted to try something different to what was trending at the time such as Brandon Woelfel type photography.

Editing

Yes, I use photoshop to enhance the look and exposure of the overall photo, very little editing on the face other than some mild spot healing. The rest ws colour correction to remove the natural green tint.

In my camera bag

My trusty Nikon D5300 with the stock lens 18-55mm and I also have the Samyang 35mm f1.4 Prime lens. I carry 2 batteries and a remote for the camera. Never use a tripod.

Feedback

Exposure is important and takes practice to perfect. Keep shooting but try understand that photoshop is not the enemy and is there to help, if you OVEREXPOSE it is usually hard to fix compared to UNDEREXPOSURE. Do not be afraid to step outside the comfort zone of what's trending and try discover your own style. Keep learning theory behind photography and try set up your shot with the knowledge of it, if anything goes wrong you can always fix it in post. Stay inspired and put the hours in, it's about passion for your work.
