I took this photo in my studio in Toronto, OntarioTime
This was amid day shoot, but in studio, it doesn't really matter the time of day. Shot with strobesLighting
I originally planned to shoot this as a black and white image, so I wanted to make sure I had some contrast and good shape to the shadows. I love portrait lighting, Rembrandt especially. Even with glamour shots, I try to sneak in a nice loops lightingEquipment
This was back in the day with my trust Canon 5d Mk II and the go-to 24-105. It triggered my Elinchrom 500RX in a gridded, 50" octobox, if I recall. A reflector just off to the models rightInspiration
This shot was an "after-shot" , end of a creative portrait set. We started to shoot this series and the model was just so "curvey" and moving so well, we just "goofed" with this outfitEditing
Post was simple. Being shot originally for black and white, just saturated the image, added a fake light in the back and voila! In my camera bag
Today, Canon 5dMk IV with still my fave 24-105. I keep 50 and 85 prime and will also shoot 70-200 F2.8. All L series. They have lasted me a long time. Today's strobes are a combination of Elinchrom and also working / experimenting with Godox AD600PRO. So far, 3 of them have held up great after a year of solid studio work. 80% of my work is studio. You name it for modifiers, The only thing I never use are shoot through umbrellas... I tend to want to control the light to the milometer and shoot thrus are too uncontrollable for meFeedback
My advice for wanting to shoot something like this, if you are not a pro, is to get a model who is..... that will be 1/2 your work done right there. Then practice every way of lighting you can ever think of so the day you want a specific look, you will know how to do it.
