Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture out on our patio.

Time

We had been having a very hot stretch of weather here in Michigan, in August. On this particularly hot humid day, the temperature was around 100 and I had been watching squirrels do all they could to cool off. I noticed this little fella, he looked like he was stretching out on the top of the fence, but he began to pull himself along and came to rest in what I assume was a very comfortable position for him. He stayed like this for almost an hour, even appeared to got to sleep at one point.

Lighting

There was nothing special with the lighting. It was a hot, overcast, high humidity day.

Equipment

My Camera is a Sony and I used a Quantaray 70-300mm lens. I'm attached to this lens, it was one I began using in the years before digital on my Minolta film camera.

Inspiration

I am a Master Gardener and I have a love a nature of all kinds. When I'm home, I still keep my camera close by and I'm always seeing what I can notice going on outside.

Editing

I don't use any editing software. "While I do think that kind of manipulating can make something beautiful or interesting, I don't think it's a photograph any longer. It then becomes more about a computer generated ability over a moment captured in time.

In my camera bag

I carry a couple other lenses as well as extra batteries. I have a few lens filters, an external flash and of course cleaning supplies.

Feedback

I always tell people to take pictures of things they enjoy. When you have an interest in what your photographing, you tend to look at it with a more detailed mind and that leads to more creative or beautiful shots. Just have fun with it. :-)
