Behind The Lens
Location
This picture was taken looking out of the back door of our conservatory, looking toward the small wood at the back of our houseTime
This was taken just after I'd woken up on a Saturday morning - around 8 AM, if I remember correctlyLighting
Purely natural light, was looking to capture the morning dew on the spider web being illuminated by the sun, which was rising at the timeEquipment
Taken with Pentax K10D with 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL DA series lens: handheld and in natural light - no filters, no accessoriesInspiration
I love the delicacy and intricacy of patterns that are found in spiders' webs, but I've found they are difficult to capture in regular daylight. The rising sun and the presence of dew I've found make it far easier to capture these subjects. For this picture in particular, I'd opened the door and - wow! This is what I saw - a moment I just had to capture: the resulting shot is a pleasing outcome.Editing
Maybe a little cropping to frame the shot properly but no further adjustmentsIn my camera bag
This camera & this lens, unless I'm travelling light, when I use a Sony DSC-RX100 insteadFeedback
For this shot, I'd actually taken similar pictures before, in different lights and with different levels of 'bokeh' applied - I suppose my advice would be, where a subject will reoccur, 'do your homework' and maybe take some practice runs until you have confidence that you can pull off the shot you're looking for. The natural world offers some great shots in seemingly mundane situations - and at unexpected times of day! I try to keep my mind and my eyes open - who knows when the next photo opportunity will present itself?
