Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo near the Navigli district, in Milan. The original picture was obviously in full colors

Time

I don't remember exactly, but was in the morning, about 10 and 11 AM. It was a typical winter day with colorless sky

Lighting

Natural lighting was ok to take pictures, and the subject was rightly exposed. It was all I needed for this photo

Equipment

For this picture i used an old compact camera, a Canon Powershot SX130 IS

Inspiration

Since the weather was not ideal for landscapes or other similar shots, i tried to focus on details around me. When i saw the multi-coloured plant pots contrasting with the dull coloured building, i had some inspiration

Editing

Working with the software "Gimp", i created two copies of the picture, one in original colour and the other in B&W. Then, after a little enhancement in saturation of the coloured one, both images were used as levels for the final work. By positioning the B&W level over the coloured, i worked on the pots with the rubber tool, making them the only coloured details in a B&W picture

In my camera bag

It's an hard question for me...I have some digital and analogue cameras, and alternate between them according to my mood

Feedback

There is a secret world that hides from our first view: it's the world of details. Let's try to take at least a second look on everything
