This lighthouse, called the Jupiter Inlet Light, was completed in May 1860 and was lit July 1860. It's at the juncture of the Jupiter Inlet and the Indian River in southeast Florida. Its unusual color red is to hide discoloration caused by the humidity in that area. On November 15, 1972, the lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1988 the Florida History Center and Museum opened in Burt Reynolds Park just across the inlet, but moved to Lighthouse Park and became the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum. Public tours to the top of the lighthouse are conducted.
