Turbulent times on the alpine tops... the forecast heatwave cranked up the steaminess to tropical levels, there was actual steam in the forest, torrid sticky hiking... and then in came the towering clouds and lightning. We spent an hour and a half flat on our backs in the tent from 6pm with rain and noisy lightning all around.

The noise died down so we went for a look around the top of the cwm, but another one came in so we spent half an hour sheltered in a nice cave at the base of the granite cliff up the back beyond the tent there with heavy rain and lightning about the ridge tops. Even as I stood at the conductive carbon tripod taking this wide panorama there was lightning flashing behind me. There was some beautiful light at times but with the downpours I didn't get the camera out much.
