Behind The Lens

Location

I had a lot of fun trying to get this picture. When I was on vacation in havasu I really wanted to get a good picture of the sunset and spent every evening setting up my camera to try and get my perfect shot

Time

After two days of trying waiting for the perfect sunset on the final day of my trip everything started to look good there was a fall monsoon rolling in and the clouds were beautiful for the sunset

Lighting

I really wanted the mountains to have a smooth silhouette which only gave me about a 5 minute window to get the shot I wanted when the sun went behind the mountain range

Equipment

I had my Nikon d3400 and a tripod however after a full day of shooting my battery died and i forgetting to grab my second bag with extra batteries. So to take the picture I used my iPhone 7plus which still took a good photo but didn’t give quite the result I wanted

Inspiration

I have been going to havasu my entire life and the sunsets have always been absolutely gorgeous. I really wanted to take a photo that would capture the beauty of the water and mountain range

Editing

Yes, to be able and achieve the look I wanted I used Lightroom to process the photo and correct the colors by using the color selector and enhancing the warm tone of the photo. As well I used photo shop to make the photo look as though it was a long exposure since I was unable to use my camera

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikkor 50 f1.8. I love the classics. It is an absolutely beautiful lens and I love the way it works with my Nikon z50. As well because I love landscapes I always have to have my sigma 10-20mm with my d3400

Feedback

You have to be patient keep shooting and adjusting your settings to get the look and gone you want. And when shooting a sunset never walk away till the stars come out otherwise the light left might provide the inspiration you need to find that one shot that you’ll fall in love with
