Behind The Lens

Location

This was a shot from my home studio with just one light.

Time

I am not sure what time of day it was, probably about midday. In the studio, time isn't relative.

Lighting

I used one light from my Godox TT600 flash from an angle above and opposite the viewer. I had some light through the window to set focus but with dark shades it did not affect the overall image.

Equipment

I used my Canon 7D Mark II with 24-70mm and one Godox TT600 flash in a 24x24 Godox diffuser.

Inspiration

I have always seen the greats do body-scape and wanted to try something. But I took shots from various angles and this shot is one of my favorite. Fine art nudes and body-scape are partners on the same field and I enjoy trying to present the viewer with my version of that mix.

Editing

Post processing on this image was a bit of a first for me. I did my first dodge and burn and I also played with the blue hue in black and white. In Photoshop, I darken the exposure on the image a bit and edit anything I didn't need. I used the Black and White layer mask and then dodge and burned.

In my camera bag

I pack various tools for various occasions. I love my 70-200mm f2.8. It creates such lovely boken and compresses the background on any image to silk. My Canon 5D Mark II is also a treasure to shoot with but I will take my Canon 7D Mark II when I am working with new models.

Feedback

I will tell you, planning is the key unless you're doing the tourist adventure.. For even a street photographer has to plan which lens, what composition he wants. In reality, I didn't know what to expect from this shoot but never the less I planned all I could and went for angles. Since it was a relaxing shoot for the model, she dozed off a few times while I work..lol. This is the result of baby oil and water, a willing model and one light. Make a plan then create.
