Behind The Lens

Location

This is my favorite Lighthouse in, Ludington, Michigan!

Time

It's Jan 5th,10 am, 15 degrees, ice flows everywhere, and a 30+mph wind. Perfect to find yourself alone and shooting waves hitting this old girl!

Lighting

Sunless, a fairly high cloud ceiling but, the light allows for an easy focal point with the contrast presented!

Equipment

I'm using a Canon 80D with a Sigma 17-50mm lens. It was handheld and looking back, I should have had my tripod out but the cold ruled out my common sense.

Inspiration

Looking at all that was around me and seeing how many ways that nature was just locked into all my senses, I could not help but be there!

Editing

I made sure the white balance was correct and probably adjusted for the exposure a small amount. Not much was necessary.

In my camera bag

At this time, I was limited to my Canon 80d. And just a couple of lenses. Today I have in my bag(s), Canon 6d, and 2 Panasonic G9's. I have the Canon 24-70ii on the 6D and I have the Olympus 40-150 pro, 12-40 pro, Olympus 75 mm prime, All 3 Sigma primes 16,30,56. And finally the Pana-Leica 10-25mm. A little something for a lot of possibilities!

Feedback

Plan a shoot like this vs. walking upon it which, not being from the area, I did! Weather and knowing it can be one of your greatest tools for a successful shot. Dress for the occasion, make sure you are very comfortable with your camera, and don't stress(or shiver). Do your best knowing that you'll get another chance,...this isn't Sasquatch!
