Behind The Lens

Location

Just outside of Nashville Tennessee

Time

This began to develop around 4:30 and I finally shot the pic about 5 pm.

Lighting

Well, as you can see there is a juxta positioning of the lighting coming from behind a dark cloud formation. I shot a number of settings hoping I could get the white balance as accurate as possible.

Equipment

Canon 80D, hand held, with a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM.

Inspiration

I am always looking for pictures that inspire me first. This I saw developing over a period of 3o minutes and the storm clouds began to break and the afternoon sun kept looking like a search light as the clouds broke. This shot seem to point out the beauty of a thunderhead growing, something we take for granted and rarely watch. My daughter's name is Sierra Sky, which my small production company is named after. Finding shots like this are the reminders of the real inspiration in this world, my daughter!

Editing

Not much, some making sure that white balance was as correct as possible and that it retained the colors as accurately as I recalled. I did very little cropping as well for this.

In my camera bag

At the time of this shooting, I kept the following lenses in my bag for my Canon... Sigma 17-50mm Tokina 11-16mm Tamron G2 70-200mm Canon 40mm pancake lens I currently shoot Micro 4/3rds, Lumix G9 and Olympus Em1 Mkii, and lenses to support it.

Feedback

Paying attention to your weather and getting feel for weather patterns that typically set up based on the conditions at hand. Using sites on line that are helpful to this understanding. As you study this more you begin to be able to anticipate the possibilities. Always take your camera with you. I remain inspired by keeping my eyes always looking skyward for the beauty of Creation's possibilities...everyday!
