Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at a boat ramp near Stonewall Jackson Dam. Which is located near Weston, WV, USA.

Time

The photograph was taken in the early afternoon.

Lighting

Since it had been snowing but had stopped, the sky was overcast allowing for soft natural light.

Equipment

The original image was taken with a Fujifilm Finepix S3100 camera. It was taken handheld. No other equipment was needed.

Inspiration

I was in awe of the beauty of the snow on the trees with the bare road curving to the left and the red posts on the right.

Editing

Oh yes! I used an application called Super Photo from the Microsoft Store. I used the "Smooth" filter to create the abstract painting effect.

In my camera bag

The main piece of equipment in my backpack is a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H300b, a poor man's alternative to a DSLR. My camera has been customized with an adaptor ring to accept 48mm filters, auxiliary lens' es (telephoto & wide-angle), and a sunshade. Also, I have added a 2.8x screen magnifier and shade with an eyepiece. Other equipment includes a cleaning kit, a flash with a slave sensor, and a cell phone. Various other bits and pieces also. Besides what's in the backpack, I have an Onn 66" tripod, a Vanguard 54" tripod, and a Culman table/shoulder pod.

Feedback

Photograph whatever you see that interests you. Really take in the scene and analyze what caught your attention. If you know your camera and what it is capable of then you can reproduce the feeling you're going for. Simply put. If you don't know what your equipment is capable of, you can't express what you are capable of.
