Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Rio Bosque Wetlands Park in El Paso Texas.

Time

Time of day was around 3 pm. We spotted this owl immediately upon arriving making us believe we were going to see others. But it was the only close encounter.

Lighting

The day was somewhat cloudy so the light was perfect.

Equipment

I used my Canon 60d hand held with a 70-300mm lens.

Inspiration

I just wanted to walk around that park to see what interesting birds and plants I could find. I didn't think I was going to see an owl though.

Editing

I was able to get really close to this owl so I did very little cropping as well as some contrast and brightness enhancements.

In my camera bag

In my bag I usually carry my Canon 60d and the following lenses: 18-135mm, 85mm, 10-20mm and the 70-300mm.

Feedback

For people like me who are not expert bird watchers just have your camera settings ready ahead of time so you don't miss an opportunity.
