Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the roadside in Wyoming. There were trucks and cars within a few feet of this majestic grizzly bear accompanied by two other bears. We were headed to the Tetons. It was between Dubois and Moran in the Bridger-Teton National forest but closer to Moran on US Hwy 26. The side of the road the bear was on, there was not a place to get up close. So we parked on the opposite side of the road. My husband took a few photos as it was his side of the road. I then got out of the truck and put my camera on the hood. I took a few shots and Boom... he snagged a piece of grass from the roots, and looked straight at me. I got this ONE shot! He was busy fattening up for the winter hibernation and was too busy eating and being photographed to care much about the paparazzi all around him (assuming a him). This was the bigger of the three bear, could have easily been a momma with her two cubs. The bears were within 10-15 feet of the cars and trucks lined up for a block or so. I was lucky to get this shot with no humans or trucks visible.

Time

This was in the mid to late afternoon in September.

Lighting

It was a gloomy day, with cloud cover.

Equipment

Shot on my T3 Canon rebel with a 75/300 kit lens.

Inspiration

The inspiration was this gorgeous fellow.

Editing

The photo was shot in Raw. I did very little post processing. I should go back and reprocess it, it has been 5 years since the photo was taken. I may have cropped it, but not much else.

In my camera bag

I now carry a T3i, a 35mm sigma 1.4 is my goto lens now. I have a 50 mm and 18-55 and a 75/300 in my bag, as well as some filters, a flash and extra batteries and my macbook with photoshop and lightroom for editing.
