Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken from the observation deck in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park in June of 2014.

Time

Afternoon

Lighting

As I knew nothing much about photography at the time, I was lucky to get the sun in a position to illuminate the falls and river nicely.

Equipment

I used my old Canon D30 camera with the 24-105mm f/4 lens. I hand held the camera. The lens has an image stabilizer mode so the image is sharp.

Inspiration

This location is a classic for Yellowstone. It is a favorite spot to photograph this beautiful waterfall.

Editing

The shot did not require any processing.

In my camera bag

On this trip I had my D30, the 24-105 f/4 canon lens, my 70-200mm f/2.8 Canon lens and a 2x extender. I have since obtained a Canon 5d Mark III camera and a 16-35 f/2.8 wide angle zoom lens for landscape shots. I also take a light weight travel tripod, two gradient ND filters, and a flash.

Feedback

I was lucky to get the lighting that I did. It is slightly backlit. If I were going back, I would take shots at different times of the day to see how the light angles affect the picture pf the falls and spray. Since I am not an experienced photographer, I would like to see the results.
