Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at a clearing in the forest somewhere near Straden, Austria. I wasn’t planning to take road shots, but the rain on the asphalt and the slight curves of the road really tied this photo together.Time
It was around 3:00pm when I went out on my walk. I saw storm clouds coming and cut across a forest path to the road, by then it was around 4:30 or 5:00 pm.Lighting
I remember the storm cloud was full of thunder, and it was around sunset. This shot was taken with full overcast though, on a longer exposure.Equipment
I used a D3300, with a 24-70mm sigma lens. I had it set up on a small tripod that I could carry with me.Inspiration
During the fall, Austria can be particularly beautiful to stroll through the forest if you have the proper rain coverings. Usually the rain isn’t bad under the trees, and this clearing was so perfectly framed.Editing
Sure, I brought some shadows out and pulled the oranges up a little, bit that’s mostly it. To get the road to be so nice I had to apply an adjustment layer if I remember correctly. In my camera bag
I always have my 50mm, and a 24-70mm on walks. If I’m climbing I’ll take my 24-70mm as well as a 70mm-300mm for those long shots.Feedback
Road can be particularly beautiful in the rain, try to find a wet road, or even wet part of the road with a water bottle if you’re shooting close enough to the ground. It really makes the scene more dramatic.
