Behind The Lens

Location

This is among one of my very beginning set of work. This one was taken at a friends place. It was a small room with not much lighting.

Time

This one was taken in the afternoon. Like I already mentioned that this was among the very beginning works of mine and I wasn't so acquainted with lighting. I wished to experiment with light, to see how it comes out. I wasn't even equipped with any basic photography light that time. It was my experiment with light. It was afternoon and I decided to go about it. I switched off the lights and shut down the doors of the room and the experiment with light began.

Lighting

The most interesting thing about this lighting is this that it was cheap 32 LED emergency light, that we often use when the power is cut off. I only had this. I only had this to make the image look like it was professionally clicked in a studio with studio lights. The subject was holding the LED light in her hands such that the reflection of the light stays pretty close to her face. Out of a few that I clicked, this one came out perfect and dramatic.

Equipment

I used Nikon D5200 and 32 LED Emergency Light

Inspiration

My desire to shoot a professional studio portrait with an element of added light inspired me to take this photograph. Like I said that this was the very beginning work of my photography career and I didn't have any equipment or lights other than just a camera that time. I had a desire to shoot a studio portrait and that inspired me to capture this photograph.

Editing

Yes, I did a bit of post processing which mostly comprised adjusting brightness and contrast. Further I added just a red flare in this photograph, which added an element of drama in this portrait and blended well with the red scarf on the head of the subject.

In my camera bag

Now, usually what i have in my bag is the Nikon D 810 camera, which has given me outstanding results as far as portrait photography is concerned. I also carry Nikkor 50mm 1.8G lens, which is pretty light and gives amazing results for the price it is. I keep Godox Flash and a Softbox. I mostly shoot off camera flash at HSS, which adds an amazing element of depth in my photographs.

Feedback

The most important thing is that one must have passion and must be completely in love with his or her work, only then one has the desire to experiment and go beyond the obvious possibilities and bringing out the the best from the most ordinary situations. It is mostly the zeal that drives a photographer and also his photographic expertise. Don't look for extra ordinary to be able to produce an outstanding image, while you can lighten up the most ordinary things by discovering the wow element resting within them.
