Location
July 4, 2017 concert at the WPS Amphitheater in Big Springs, Texas.Time
7:43pmLighting
I was sitting down front of the amphitheater worried about the boiling storms all around us that night. In fact, the orchestra had been delayed because the cops found that someone was flying a drone over the event. The stage was behind me and since the orchestra had not started, there was a lot of light from that direction. I was playing with different settings and no sure how I settled on this one. To be truthful, I may have set the camera on auto our of shear frustration over the changing light.Equipment
Canon 5D MKIII, Canon EF 17-40 f4L, No flash, f4.5, 1/125, ISO640Inspiration
Over my right shoulder, I had seen some serious lightning behind the American Flag and thinking I could get a really great shot, I turned only to find this young lady (the daughter of a friend of ours) coming down the stairs and just as I took the shot, she turned to look back at someone who had called her name. The color and clouds are real, I adjusted the light a bit in LR to highlight her dress. All of her family wanted copies of this photo. I took only one shot of her and the rest was of her taking pictures of other people but I never got the photo release from the others.Editing
I took out the figure of a man who was sitting just under her camera and adjusted the light in LR to bring out the color of her dress but otherwise, the clouds and the light from the stage was as is.In my camera bag
Canon 5D MKIII, Canon EF 17-40mm f4L, Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 IS II USM, Canon 100, f2.8L Macro, Canon EOS M6; Note - I have the adapter for the M6 so I can use all of my Canon EF lenses. While traveling to Mexico recently, I left the 5D and home and it was used the M6. Sure was a lot easier than carrying the 5D and the results were really good.Feedback
Someone told me that the Canon EF 17-40mm f4L worked as the human eye sees! Not sure how true that is but when trying to take in a lot of area with a photo, I find this lens gets me what I want. Years ago I heard an interview with a Life Photographer and his advice was to have a camera with you all all time. Using the iPhone 8, along with the M6 makes that an easy choice these days.
