Location
This photo was taken in my studio in Rijswijk, near The Hague in The Netherlands. It's basically an office floor...Time
As my studio cannot be properly darkened, we had to wait until after sunset. We started with a more "standard" shoot, continued with an LED strip and finished off with a light brush. I think we finished after midnight, but it was a fun session and clearly worth it!Lighting
I used a lightbrush with blackened fibres, such that only the ends of the fibres emit light. The brush was moved over the cellist in a long exposure in the dark.Equipment
Apart from the light brush, I used a Nikon D800 on a sturdy tripod, with a Nikon 85mm.Inspiration
A light brush is a wonderful tool to create out of this world photos. My payment, a bottle of rum (thanks Antonis!) added to the inspiration...Editing
Some minor general and local exposure correction in Camera Raw.In my camera bag
What I normally use depends on the shoot. In the studio I typically rely on a Nikon D800 with either Tamron 24-70mm, Nikon 85mm, Tamron 70-200mm. Further triggers, model releases, batteries.Feedback
Try to have the room as dark as possible, a black background helps. If possible, have some space between your model and the background. Get a bottle of rum!
