Location
This photo was captured from the inside of a water taxi in Victoria, BC, as we went under the bridge.Time
This shot was captured in the afternoon just after the lunch rush of workers and tourists.Lighting
The sun was in the perfect place to cast just a little bit of shadow where the wood was, and was at an angel that there was no glare coming off the water!Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 70D with an 18-135mm lens. That's it! I try to make my shoots as light and easy as possible (whether it's a pleasure shoot like this one was or a client shoot).Inspiration
I have seen incredible photos of old bridges and I've always wanted to capture one that bent around and was in the water. I'd tried before unsuccessfully but I NEVER GAVE UP! Finally, by chance, I captured this one and am so proud of it! Persistence is key!Editing
I really didn't have to do much editing on the light because of the time of day. I did make this shot black and white so that it showcased the old wood textures and barnacles better. In my camera bag
My camera, two lenses (one 18-135mm and one 55-250mm), macro tube lens, photography balls, microfibre cloth, my charger, and most importantly, a photo of my Dad who has passed away, who never stopped believing in, and encouraging me to be myself and always experiment with creativity.Feedback
Have patience. This shot took me all of 3 seconds to capture, But I'd been waiting well over 10 years to capture it. Constantly looking for the right bridge, the right angle, the right height. Always practicing the shot with as many bridges as I could. Patience, persistence, determination, creativity, and sometimes a little chance are key for all photos. If it doesn't happen after the first few tries, NEVER GIVE UP! Put it off to the side, and always keep an eye out for what you're wanting to capture. Try different ideas and shots, and like I said, sometimes chance comes along and gives you that opportunity to capture that shot you want. If you're always aware and looking for it, you'll get it! If you're not, it may pass you by without you realizing it.
