Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in southwest Calgary when I used to live in a small outskirt community by the highway. It was my neighbour's crabapple tree

Time

I caught this photo in the morning. It was September and we got a freak snowstorm that dumped 3 feet of snow in less than 36 hours and a couple days later, when the snow was almost gone, the temp dropped causing massive big frost crystals on everything.

Lighting

Nothing particular. It was an overcast morning, very grey. I'm glad I got this shot when I did because it ended up being super sunny 2 hours later and the ice crystals were gone

Equipment

Canon EOS 70D with an 55mm-250mm canon lens.

Inspiration

I'd never been able to capture frost crystals before so seeing this tree branch covered in them made me run home and grab my camera to capture it before it was gone.

Editing

Yes I did a little contrast work, a little black/show enhancement and vignette

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 70D Canon lenses 18-135mm and 55-250mm Microfibre cloth Lens caps A photo of my Dad before he passed away

Feedback

Sometimes you have to brave an uncomfortable environment like cold weather and freezing your poor fingers to get a shot right. Take a deep breath, give yourself that "Go! Go! Go!" Mentality, and have patience when lining the shot up and for lighting if it's cloudy and sunny.
