Location
This is taken from the shore of Lake Wakatipu, which is an incredibly picturesque lake found in the Otago region of South Island, New Zealand. In particular, this was taken in Queenstown, an incredibly popular, scenic town, which sits on the North shore of the Lake.Time
Early morning, in winter. It was freezing; my hands could barely operate the camera's controls, even with some nice gloves!Lighting
There was a nice glow just starting to come through from the mountains opposite, and wanted to make sure I got that, as well as reflect just how damn cold it was!Equipment
I used a Nikon D810 with a Nikkor 14 - 24mm lens. It's such a wonderful, sharp lens, that I find myself returning to it time and again. I think I also had it mounted on a Gitzo lightweight CF tripod - the best, most portable tripod I have ever owned.Inspiration
The scenery! How coud you not be inspired by the majestic Southern Alps and its spectacular surrounds?! You have to be really trying to not capture a beautiful landscape in such a surrounding :)Editing
Lightroom for basic adjustments, an then onto Photoshop for exposure blending and some luminosity masking fun. Back into Lightroom for some final tweaks. In my camera bag
Nikon D810; Lee filter stuff (adapter rings, holder); Grad Filters, Big Stopper and Little Stopper (all in a filter bag); shutter release (noname, Ali Express job - does the trick!); Nikkor 14-24mm, Zeiss 21mm usually; microfibre cloth; spare battery; pair of gloves if it's cold; small towel.Feedback
Scout the location out the previous day if possible - work out where you want to be. Get up early as you can - the best light is qute a while before sunrise. Dress warmly. Get some gloves that you can release the finger tips so you can operate the controls of your camera properly - I have a pair of Vallerrets which are great.
