This is taken from the graveyard of the Parish Church of Saint Cuthbert at the West End of Princes Street Gardens - looking towards Edinburgh Castle.Time
From memory - the photo was taken early afternoon - there was some nice swirly clouds that was just what I was looking for as a background to an already imposing, gothic-like scene.Lighting
The sun was obscured enough by the cloud to lend some some diffused lighting to the scene. I particularly liked the splash of lighting at the front of the gravestone in the foreground.Equipment
The photo was taken, handheld, with a Nikon D810 and perhaps my favourite landscape lens: the Zeiss Milvus 21mm f2.8 ZF.2.Inspiration
As a resident of Edinburgh, its beautiful architecture provides no end of inspiration. That, coupled with some exceptional natural lighting, meant that the photo almost took itself! :)Editing
The photo itself was processed in both Lightroom and Photoshop to convert to black and white, with some luminosity masking to add to the already moody contrast to bring out a gothic feel (I hope!).In my camera bag

I personally would look for that unusual angle and try and couple that with some nice natural light effects, if you can.
