This photo was taken at Ft. Whyte in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I was with a friend taking bird photos when this handsome young man walked into the scene.Time
About 1PM. We had been sitting at a bird feeding station watching the seasonal birds flit in and out and were graced with this male and his partner.Lighting
Overcast most of the day.Equipment
Canon 5D MkIII, Sigma 100-00, hand held.Inspiration
Anytime a majestic animal like this gives one the opportunity to take a picture, it's very pleasing. But this young fellow not only stopped, he framed himself between two trees. I couldn't have paid him in straw to get this lucky!Editing
Shot in RAW and processed in Light Room. Typical processing, lower the highlights, raise the shadows, a little clarity, a little contrast boost, and a bit of sharpening. In my camera bag
For this kind of shooting, just the camera and lens and spare batteries if it's really cold.Feedback
Have a bit of knowledge of the site you plan to visit. This particular area is a privately owned conservation area and is well managed. Knowing where the critters feed helps and above all, be patient. This shot was nearly an hour after we had arrived and were sitting there quietly.
