Location
This was taken on Tower Bridge, London, looking towards the cityTime
It was taken early afternoon with settings adjusted to take into account the harsh lightLighting
Although the sun was bright it highlighted the the pigeons colouring nicelyEquipment
I used my Canon 80D with a 50mm prime lens at f/3.5 1/2000 sec ISO 320. No tripod and I had the camera resting on the ledge in case of too much movement from the pigeonsInspiration
I love bokeh so to have the focus on the pigeons with London blurred in the background was a nice change to using lightsEditing
I did some basic adjustments to highlights, saturation, clarity, contrast after shooting the picture in rawIn my camera bag
I always carry a small tripod along with 2 or 3 lenses (always 50mm) a couple of filters and basic cleaning tools. I also take some extra equipment if I’m travelling by car (large tripod, my other lenses etc)Feedback
Harsh light can be off putting if you’re shooting in the middle of the day. But you can use it to your advantage with picking up bright colours, sunbursts and beautiful blue skies. The harshness can be toned down in post processing. With birds, be patient and still and take lots of shots
