Location
I took this photo on the shore of Lake Arthur during a fall motorcycle ride. The spot is secluded for the lake because this is off the main road away from state park.Time
This was taken around 16:00 in the fall which would be late afternoon about an hour before sunset.Lighting
The lighting was cloudy which helped give a more even light over the trees. This allowed for more area of the scene to be shown without over exposure from the sunlight being reflected.Equipment
I used my Pentax K70 with the 18-135mm lens. I was free standing without a tripod.Inspiration
I had been here a few times before that year and when the leaves changed I knew I only had a few days to get out before a fall rain took most of the leaves off the trees. I stopped to see what the trees would look like and was stunned at the multitude of colors. I started shooting the entire area, and out of all the pictures this was the one I loved the most with the shore being the focus.Editing
I did do some post processing. I changed the contrast, added color, then made three pictures from it. The first with the original exposure. Second with one stop below, and other with one stop above. I put them into a free HDR program. The image that resulted is what you see.In my camera bag
If I am out riding the motorcycle I take my camera and the 18-135mm Lens. If I take a bag on a hike I usually have the camera, 18-135mm lens, 55-300mm lense, 35mm macro lens, extra battery, and a lens cleaning kit.Feedback
When you go out try and find a day that is cloudy or has subtle light. This will allow you to bring out colors more in post processing along with less risk for over exposure. If you are looking for more glassy water and less movement in trees remember to find a spot that has minimal wind.
