Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken from the ridge on Crystal Mountain. I use to go hiking ever weekend with a hiking group, but as time went on it became less frequent. The leader of the hiking group got cancer and this was one of the last trips I went on with him.

Time

By this point of the trip is was round noon.

Lighting

I always try to use what is given to me. And being midday, about a week after the Autumn Equinox, a rare clear day, the sun was a nice to have.

Equipment

Nikon D3300 with a 18-55mm lens or the 55-200mm lens, I was swapping back a forth that day and can't remember which one.

Inspiration

After having taken about 30 pictures of the mountain and the birds in the trees I wanted something a little different. I found a nice spot along the ridge and took a few shots.

Editing

Most I do is some minor light and color tweaks, I try to keep things to a minimum.

In my camera bag

When I took this, it was a little over a month with having my camera. Which a Nikon D3300 kit from Costco. meaning the body, and the two lenses as mentioned earlier. I have added another lens, a 40mm, along with a carbon fiber tripod and remote and a new, larger, camera bag.

Feedback

I try to use what I have, and what is given to me by nature. I broke off from my group and when ahead of them, or I stay back. I'm constantly looking around. Not thinking about lighting and rules of thirds. That doesn't really start to happen until I've taken a few shots of what I was looking at, and seeing what is around me to make it better.
