Behind The Lens

Location

The boardwalk is situated on the beach near Dungeness nuclear power station on Romney Marsh in Kent, England. The photo is a composite of the boardwalk and the sunset.

Time

The boardwalk was photographed in good daylight around midday.

Lighting

I already had in mind to use the boardwalk shot as a base for a composite and wanted to capture it as evenly lit as possible down its length.

Equipment

Handheld using Pentax K100 D.

Inspiration

I love photographs that have roads, paths or tracks that seem to disappear into infinity and like to create a narrative for the viewer. The sunset seemed perfect to place at the end of the boardwalk. The obvious reference to ‘walking into the sunset’ being in my mind.

Editing

I made this photograph from two separate images. I adjusted the boardwalk and beach shot to give the pebbles a warm glow to mimic the lighting effect of the sunset image. The photos were adjusted and stitched together using a computer based software program.

In my camera bag

Pentax K100 D or my trusty old Pentax K1000 and an assortment of lenses. And if not those my iPad or my mobile phone.

Feedback

I find it really comes down to your imagination and seeing where that can take you. Don’t be afraid to experiment as this can lead to some brilliant pictures.
