Location
This photo was taken at Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park in Montana.Time
On my husband's and my trip to Montana last summer, we would wake up everyday for sunrise and either drive to a location or enjoy one by our campsite. The second half of the week we were unexpectedly moved to Two Medicine campground because of bear activity. This was the best thing that could have happened. We would wake up most days and just walk to this location and watch the sun rise on the mountains.Lighting
I'm used to photography landscapes and the sky facing the sun during the sunrise. In Glacier, I mostly photographed the light growing on the mountains as it rose behind me. It was definitely a different way to photography sunrises, but now it's become my favorite.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-70mm lens.Inspiration
The entirety of Montana is inspiring. Ever since I was little I've been fascinated with scenery that included a body of water surrounded by mountains and some trees. It was a bucket list item to visit Glacier National Park. I had seen so many images like this before I went there that I had this shot in mind before I even saw it in person. The views there are inspiring enough to make you want to keep creating.Editing
For this image I did minimal post-processing. Little tweaks in the contrast and highlights and increased the saturation. In my camera bag
In my bag I always have my Canon 5D Mark III with the 24-70mm lens, along with my 70-200mm, and a little 50mm lens.Feedback
Go out early in the morning. Just wake up and do it! Everyday I would think, "I'm so tired, will this really be worth it?", and it always was. All of the sunrises were my favorite part of the trip. There was nobody to a handful of people around us for sunrises, and there's something special about capturing pictures of something you know not many people got to experience.
