Location
I captured this photo through a double-paned glass window as I looked out into our backyard garden area in Swift Current, Saskatchewan Canada.Time
I shot this photo at 9:56AM CST (2012 October 08).Lighting
I do not remember what the lighting was like as it was eight years ago. Based on other photos I took that morning within an hour before and within two hours after this photo was shot, I believe it was a sunny autumn morning as other photographed subjects were lit up by the sun.Equipment
I shot this photo hand-held with my Nikon D200 Camera and a Nikon 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6 lens (a kit lens I originally bought with my Nikon F80 camera years before this) at 300mm. The camera was set in Program (Auto) Exposure mode f/5.6 1/125 ISO 400 White Balance set at "Cloudy". Spot Metering mode. Handheld.Inspiration
I am a naturalist and love animals big and small so any opportunity to photography them is an inspiration. The little Nuttall's Cottontail sitting near the autumn leaves in the garden was pleasing to me as I love the autumn colours.Editing
This photograph is right out of the camera, shot in JPEG format. I did not do any post-processing.In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D750, D200 and D5100 cameras in my bags along with my Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, a Nikon Micro f/2.8 lens, a Tamron SP 24-70MM F/2.8 Di VC USD lens, a Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens, and a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens. I also always have my Samsung S8+ SM-6955W cellular phone with me (I like to use it when I want or need a wider angle photo.)Feedback
My advice for others is to shoot as often as you can. Look for photo opportunities everywhere including in your own home and/ or yard... even if you have to shoot through the window (this could be an incentive to try to keep your windows clean.) We have some treasures in our own yards we don't often think of photographing. Try to take advantage of the lighting - when it is sunny or when it is cloudy or if rain or any other weather system is moving in, and play with your f stops. Take more than one photo... you can always delete them if they do not turn out. I shot this photograph in "Program" (Auto) mode - before I learned to use my camera in Manual. I no longer shoot in Program (Auto) mode. My advice is to also try different camera settings and lenses. My most important advice of all is to pick up your camera and go out and have fun!!
