As a little girl a was on the same spot. The large ice tongue of the Rhonegletscher was coming down in the valley. In 1995 I was shocked that so much ice was gone. The glacier just come over the edge. In 2009 when I took this photograph the glacer isn't really seen from Gletsch. You see the grey area where the ice was. But to see the real glacier you have to drive up to Furkapas and stop at the parking to see the ice cave. You have to walk to the glacier and then you can enter the cave. The walk in the glacier is now almost a third of what it was in 1976 when I first visited this lovely place. The river Rhone start here its journey through valleys in Switzerland and France.

A truly awesome photo!. I like the very natural composition of this capture and your description of the well known effects of global warming.

Sadness that there is now a lake at the end of the glacier. The glacier lays now 200 more from the restaurant. And it becomes every year shorter. ????
