I took this photo outside in the Deer Creek Hills outside of Sacramento, California.Time
This was taken at 11:34 am.Lighting
I wanted to get some images that worked even when it was not the Golden Hour. This tree really stood out even at midday. I knew the contrast was going to lend well to a black and white photo.Equipment
I used a Nikon D600 with a 70-300 lens.Inspiration
My inspiration for this photo was my wife. She loves photos of isolated trees. This really fit the bill. I loved the oak on the rolling grassy hills.Editing
I used Lightroom to turn it to black and white. I didn't to much to the photo short of adding a little contrast. In my camera bag
I like to travel light. My goal is to have an all around lens, a macro and a zoom with me. The rest stays home and comes out for special occasions.Feedback
Drive around and think about taking photographs as you enjoy the scenery. This shot jumped out at me as I was meandering through a preserve. When I looked at it I knew that it was the perfect example of an isolated tree. I loved the simplicity of it. Try not to get too much sky in the photo and it is best to have the tree off center.
