Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a pumpkin patch farm in Olympia, Washington during the fall season just before Halloween.

Time

The time of day I took this photo was around 11:00 in the morning. The day produced a soft light which I liked a lot since it didn't hit on the truck and pumpkins in a harsh manner.

Lighting

I liked the natural light that was present at that time on that day. I actually bracketed three exposures and combined them to get just the right one exposure that represented what I was seeing in the colors of the old truck, the weathered wood slats on the truck and the orange pumpkins in the truck bed.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a Nikon 5200 with a 28mm-250mm topaz lens. I hand held the camera and only used the natural light of the October morning.

Inspiration

To me this was a perfect photo to represent the time of year, autumn. The age of the truck enhanced the photograph. I liked the colors that presented themselves to me and tried my best to capture what I was seeing.

Editing

I did all the post processing through Topaz Studio. I did not have to process the photo very much as the colors were nearly where I liked them. I did take the photo in RAW and processed to JPG format.

In my camera bag

Currently I am either carrying a Nikon D610 or a Nikon D7200. For the D7200, my go to lens is a Tamron 18-400mm zoom. The lens is able to accommodate just about any kind of shot when I am walking around with it. I do have a variety of lens for both cameras. When I do Maco photography I like using the Nikon 105 mm lens for the full frame D610. I use the Nikon 85mm macro lens for the D7200. If I am doing portraits I like using the Nikon 105mm and 85mm lens for the full frame D610.

Feedback

Each season presents itself with varieties of photographic opportunities. You just have to get out and see the world. You don't even have to go to far, maybe just in your back yard or maybe just down the street. Photos are everywhere waiting for you to take them.
