A small pocket of old growth redwoods can be found in Hendy Woods State Park along Hwy 128 near Philo CA. These woods were saved from the extreme logging that was prevalent in the area in the early 1900's. In the 1960's the Save the Redwood League purchased the property and it was granted state park status. A nice easy hike into the forest for amazing up close views of these giants. This park has some trees over 1,000 years old.
