This was shot around late morning, since that particular slope faces east and I wanted to see the sunlight through the leaves.Lighting
The light is constantly changing in a forest environment. Clouds and the position of the sun make each minute different, as does the terrain.Equipment

Fall is a great time to be in the mountains, and I am always looking for a new way to capture the experience (rather than just a simple view). Whenever I am taken my the moment, I try to shoot what I see.Editing

I often hike all day over difficult terrain, so I try to travel light (and always avoid lens changes outdoors). A spare battery and a lens cloth in a waterproof case are all I usually need.Feedback
Forget the books and the guides; you need to feel your environment. Hit the trail. Don't obsess over the shot. You will know when to take it!
