Location
This is The Church of The Good Sheperd and is located in the Lake Tekapo township, South Island, New Zealand.Time
This was in the morning around 9am in our NZ late winter early spring it was a cold wet day with periodic rain.Lighting
As mentioned the morning was wet and overcast, which suited the look I was going for the cloud cover and dark skies added a somber feeling to the shot, the wet ground and puddles made the shot a little melancholy in a beautiful kind of way, I was actually glad the weather was like this as the time of day I took this photo would not have been anywhere near as interesting with plain blue skies and bright sun.Equipment
I used my Sony A7RII with the Sony 16-35mm F4 lens on a Sirui tripod, the photo was shot at a 22mm focal length and at f11.Inspiration
This is a great iconic New Zealand land mark and has been photographed by thousands travellers from NZ and all around the world, the South Island area where this is is located is surrounded by many beautiful blue lakes and rivers with snow capped mountain ranges as a back drop, also not far from Mt Cook another very popular scenic area with amazing views and glacier lakes. I love this area and it never looks the same twice when I get the chance to travel here, I am wanting to capture this scence in mid winter where it looks incredible covered in thick snow also late November when the lupins out in full in the sun showing off their bright purple colours all over this hill side.Editing
A little colour saturation and bringing the dark skies up, but not a lot of processing on this one.In my camera bag
I now carry a Sony A7R3 and have gone to the Tamron 17-28mm f2 lens for my landscape work paired with the Sony 24-105 G f4 and a Sony 70-200mm f4 for longer reach, I also have a Sony Macro 90mm lens for the little bit of macro work I do. I am starting to put together an APSC Fuji system for a more compact travel and hiking option, I have the Fuji XS10 with the 16-80mm f4 and also some smaller Fuji primes such as the 14mm f2.8 and 23mm f2, I have the new Fuji 70-300mm on order also. Most of my equipment is bought secondhand and has taken years to build up.Feedback
Try to get the light you are hoping for, it might mean an early or late time of the day, in this case the Church is so popular there is usually a steady flow of tourists around taking snaps and this can be a frustration to try and compose the shot you want, so earlier the better and you can also try using a long exposure by attaching your camera to a good sturdy tripod and using a ND filter so you can take any wayward tourist walking into your frame out of the equation.
