Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Central Lisbon, specifically in Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square).

Time

Seeing as the sun is behind those buildings, and that is west, it was probably late afternoon/early evening.

Lighting

The lighting in this scene was just perfect for the mood I was trying to convey. It was dim and evenly distributed, since there was no direct sunlight. The tram stands out because of its position in the frame, its color and the focus, but everything else gets enough attention and detail, thanks to this evenly lit scene.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3300 and a 18-55 mm lens.

Inspiration

I was strolling around Lisbon, and this was just one of many great opportunities to take a beautiful shot of this beautiful city.

Editing

I did very basic color correction, contrast, etc. The usual. I didn't want to change it too much. I wanted it to stay natural and true to what I saw.

In my camera bag

Normally, I'll either pack my small bag with my Nikon D5300 and my two lenses (18-55 mm and 50 mm), plus my RODE microphone and my three batteries. Otherwise, I'll pack my big backpack with all that, plus my charger, my GoPro and batteries, my laptop, my tripod and a few other minor accessories.

Feedback

The good thing about Lisbon is it's one of the oldest cities in Europe and has a lot of history. It has beautiful monuments as well as two huge bodies of water - the Tagus river and the Atlantic Ocean - which makes it almost impossible not to have something beautiful to capture. These trams travel around the entirety of the old, historic part of the city, but the best one is number 28 (shhh...).
