A bundle of sage, meant for burning while placed into an abalone shell, is a symbol of purification. Before a medicine Wheel ceremony, everyone brushes the sage or sweetgrass smoke around them by smudging the smoke over with a single feather.
I look over my small souvenirs and treasures, and my still life choices make me realize that I have had a life. This is me, a spiritual explorer, from a longtime family of these.
I realize that the experience of Medicine Wheel or smudging the fence outdoors, for that matter has entrenched my belonging to Canada and Canadian ways. It's nice to wake up to this record every once in a while.
