Earlier this summer, we watched a cardinal hatch in a nest just above our kitchen window, grow, and leave. The family comes back frequently to feed on our feeders, and one of these days the young one was sitting on a branch above for quite a while, ignoring the chirps of its parents. I guess we aren't the only ones to deal with independent children!
