This photo was taken at the Under Armour Brothers in Arms Bowl at Cathedral Catholic High School. Before each game each team was handed a flag and was stage in the truss area. The biggest challenge was to be close enough without getting run over. There were a number of other photographers and news/media crews right next to me.Time
The sun had just set and we were going into blue hour. This was a challenge due to mixing ambient light, the stage lighting and the sky getting darker by the minute.Lighting
You can see that I lost a lot of detail in the players face as they were in complete shadow. I love getting the faces, but to do that I would have blown out the lights and the sky. I had to pick to see faces or see the sky/stage lighting.Equipment
This image was shot with a Canon 1DX Markii and a Canon 17-40mm F4. No flash. no tripod. I was on my knees bent over the camera. I prefocused my shot and fired as they ran through the scene.Inspiration
The players were so energized coming into the tunnel. I had to try to capture that energy.Editing
This image was processed in Lightroom. Nothing too crazy. In my camera bag
My main body is a Canon 1Dx Mark ii with a backup of a 7D. I learned everything on my 7D and will never part with it! Lens: 400mm F2.8, 70-200mm IS II F2.8, 50mm F1.2, 100mm Macro F2.8, 17-40mm F4Feedback
I had time to get all my settings in before players came into frame. That was key. Know your exposure and be ready for a curveball at any moment. Just keep shooting and learning!
