In the middle of suburban San Diego, surrounded by homes, freeways and other development, lies a large wilderness of rugged mountains, valleys, canyons and streams called Mission Trails Regional Park. Usually by August when this photo was taken, all the streams are bone-dry here, being a semi-arid desert with a Mediterranean climate (hot and dry almost year round with rain in the Winter...if we're lucky). But thanks to a record-breaking wet Winter of 2016-2017, many of the streams still have water flowing naturally through them, like this one, being an oasis here in San Diego.
