Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Primrose Hill in London, England.

Time

Just as the sun was setting on a summer’s evening.

Lighting

Apart from some minimal post-editing just to really make the silhouettes more prominent, nature took care of the lighting!

Equipment

A Nikon D3200 with a standard 18-55mm lens, that’s all.

Inspiration

Just observing people walking and enjoying the last few rays of the day. I spotted some people higher up the hill and wanted to capture the dramatic sky and their outlines on the horizon.

Editing

Very minimal post-editing in Windows Picture Manager; this was taken before I discovered Lightroom.

In my camera bag

My kit collection is not as extensive as I would like (!) so it’s just my Nikon D3200 and my 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. Sometimes I’ll pack my beginner’s tripod but I prefer shooting freehand if possible.

Feedback

Basically just make the most of what nature provides. Your home city can be just as exciting and photogenic as exotic travels. Just get out and about and you’d be amazed at the opportunities that present themselves-and the more you make yourself open to them, the higher your chances of great photos!
